Happy Halloween!

Hey guys! It's Halloween here at Coe College! And let me tell you, the costumes are out. Every admissions counselor in the admissions office is wearing a costume. My favorite one is our receptionist, Sharon, who is dressed up like a pink lady from Grease. A lot of the students are wearing costumes to class too, which is pretty funny.

I won't be able to wear my costume out tonight because of our football game tomorrow at Luther, but I'll definitely be sporting it out tomorrow night. This year, I'm a crayon for Halloween with some friends. Freshman year, I was Mario, sophomore year, I was a nerd, and last year, I was a heavy metal rocker. Halloween is always a very fun and exciting time at Coe!

Dinner at my Professor's House

Last night my neurobiology class had dinner at our professor's house! The professor was David Lo, a second year biology professor here at Coe. This is the third class I've had with him and it was my second time being over at his house with a class for dinner. We ate homemade Chinese food, and it was so good. I love the cafeteria but it's always nice to have a home cooked meal every once in a while.

One of the things I love about Coe is that it offers things like this. Because of our small class sizes, you really get to know your professors and they really get to know you too. Not only do they just know you, but they care about you as a person. The small class sizes are very helpful and convenient whenever you need help on assignments or for studying for tests. Your professor's are always available for consultation and conversation. Also, because of the small class sizes, you get to know everyone in your class pretty well and you make awesome new friends all the time! The smaller class size is one of my favorite aspects of Coe College.

Coming off of BYE week

Hey all! It's Friday and of course all I can think about on Friday's is the fact that we have a football game tomorrow. We had a BYE week last week so we didn't play a game. Tomorrow we play Loras and it's the start of our conference season. We're coming in with big expectations and our goal is to win the conference!

BYE week was nice, we got a lot of time off. We got some much needed rest and we are ready to get back on the field tomorrow and show what we can do! Playing football at Coe is great. The coaches are awesome and care about their players a lot. Being part of the team is a lot of fun. We have over 100 people on our team so getting to know and play with that many people rocks. I love playing football in college. Coming out onto the field and seeing tailgaters and fans waiting for the game is awesome. The atmosphere of college football is unlike anything else. So far, in my last 4 years at Coe we have a record of 24-9. It's been a great 3 years so far and I'm looking to go out with a bang along with my fellow seniors.

The high for the game is 49 degrees so it's going to be the first cold game of the season. I can't wait to get out on that field and get the W against Loras!

How I Became A Kohawk

While now that I am a senior I call Coe my home, my home before Coe was Oskaloosa, Iowa. This is  where I pondered my college decision. Did I want to go to a big school or a small school? Did I want to play a sport or did I just want to be a student? There are many questions when deciding what college to choose.

Coming out of high school, I knew that I wanted to play football in college. This originally put the most weight on my college decision. I visited many schools, both big and small, and I visited almost every private college in Iowa. As I was visiting these schools, I kept trying to find something that set them apart from one another. The first thing that set Coe apart from other schools was how nice the coaching staff was. I felt like they actually cared about me as a person and that I wasn't just another number in their system. Once I got onto Coe's campus, I noticed how nice and homey it was. Another thing that added to this homey feel was the fact that everyone on Coe's campus was so nice and genuine, not just their football coaching staff. Even students were saying hi to me and welcoming me to Coe as I walked by on my campus tour.

Football got my foot in the door to Coe College, but I soon discovered that Coe had so much more to offer. The academics at Coe are outstanding, and a degree from Coe can get you far. Coe has so many student activities going on on campus that there is never a dull moment. The student population is so involved with Coe and with one another that you meet so many people and make so many great friends throughout your time here at Coe. As you walk through campus you can feel the sense of pride that everyone has because of the fact that they are a Kohawk. The list of how great Coe is goes on and on, you should come see it for yourself!
