Activities At Coe

Hey all! I just want to take a moment to let you know about all of the activities that go on at Coe on a weekly basis! The best part about these activities is that they're all FREE, and put on by Coe! Most are on campus, but there are also free or cheap activities off campus! On campus, every Friday and Saturday night, there are different events going on in the PUB. These events include musicians, slam poets, comedians, movie nights, dances, speakers and more! Also, when the weather is nice, Coe will have random carnival days out in the quad! They set up bags and all kinds of other games to play and serve free corn dogs and sno cones! Sometimes they set up mini golf and disc golf courses around campus, which are always fun to play. There is also an outdoor basketball court on campus as well as a beach volleyball court, those always stay busy on the weekends! Whether it's hanging outside in the quad with friends when you're not in class, playing music with friends outside or playing sports outside there are always things to do besides these events!

Coe also offers many activities off campus. We have a Student Activities Committee who's sole purpose is to provide activities for students to do! On Friday nights, at Wehrenberg movie theater in Cedar Rapids, if you show your Coe ID for a movie at midnight you get in for free! There are also three minor league sports teams here in Cedar Rapids, the Kernels, a baseball team, the Rough Riders, a hockey team, and the Titans, an arena football team! Personally, the hockey games are my favorite, but they are all fun to go to! Coe will sell tickets for some of these games for only $3! One of my favorite trips that the Student Activities Committee plans is the ski trip to Sundown Ski Resort in Dubuque, IA. A bus full of Coe students goes to this ski resort for the night and spends the whole night there skiing and snowboarding! There are many more events that the SAC puts on, too many to name! Come check out Coe and see for yourself!

Besides these events put on by Coe, the city of Cedar Rapids has such an awesome community that always has fun things going on! Downtown Cedar Rapids is only a mile away from Coe, and there's so much to do down there! There's bike trails, great restaurants, live music, farmers markets, outdoor amphitheater, and so much more! There is also a mall and many other great restaurants the opposite direction of downtown from Coe! Coe is in the perfect location to be entertained, get cultured and also to get great jobs and internships at some big companies in Cedar Rapids.

FLUNK DAY

Hey guys! Today I want to tell you about one of Coe's biggest traditions that happened last Tuesday! Flunk Day! Flunk Day is a tradition at Coe that is over 100 years old, and it is one of the most fun days of the year. When does it happen every year? No one knows except for the student body president! Flunk Day occurs on any day after spring break, but the students never know the exact date. Although it gets a little tricky, that's one of the best parts about it. Once the weather starts getting nice, the students at Coe know that Flunk Day could always be "tomorrow". You officially find out that it's Flunk Day when the Flunk Day Committee, the people that set it all up, come knock on your doors early in the morning. All classes at Coe are cancelled for the day and the students spend that entire day out in Coe's quad playing all kinds of games, eating awesome grilled food and conversing with fellow students and professors! Flunk Day is a fun filled day that Coe puts on to give the students a much needed break between spring break and finals. After all, the students here at Coe deserve it after working so hard in school! Here's some pictures to give you an idea of what Flunk Day looks like!

St. Patricks Day!

Happy St. Patricks Day everyone! St. Patricks Day is always a fun day here at Coe! Of course, it's a day full of wearing green and pinching anyone that doesn't. One of my favorite parts is waiting to see what the faculty will be wearing to class! Usually they show up wearing some crazy green outfit. One of our favorite things to do here at Coe on St. Patrick is to spend all day after class playing games out on the quad! Here is a pic from freshman year St. Patricks day, where we played basketball outside all day and grilled out on the grills outside next to the basketball court!
Today, I plan on spending all day out on the quad playing bags, basketball, can jam and spikeball! Don't worry, I plan on wearing green the whole time! Happy St. Patricks Day!

Finishing Up Senior Year

Hey all! Senior year is coming to an end, and trust me, it's coming fast! It is quite a bittersweet time for us seniors. While we are excited to move on to the next chapter in our lives, we also aren't ready to have our time at Coe done yet! Saying goodbye to our close Kohawk family is going to be a tough time! This senior year has been the best year at Coe yet. Here are some of my favorite pictures from this year:

My friends and I just hanging out!

A bunch of us football guys cheering on the soccer team!

Some of my friends and I and our girlfriends at the football banquet!

All of us senior football players together after our last game! We beat Buena Vista 33-13!

Some of the guys I went to Aspen to snowboard with!

My time at Coe has been an experience I will never forget. The friendships and memories that I have made here will last a time, and I am so happy to be a Kohawk. I know that as the rest of senior year goes on we will continue to make even more unforgettable memories!

School Spirit

Hi guys! I thought I'd take a moment to tell you guys about how much school spirit Coe has! This weekend there was a home basketball game against Luther. The games on the weekends are the best because you have all day to get your costume for the student section ready. Usually for each game we have a crazy theme that everyone dresses up for. This weekend the theme was one of my all time favorites, thrift shop. And we won the game!
We took a morning trip to a couple of thrift shops in Cedar Rapids and selected the most ridiculous and awesome clothes we could find. Another theme we did earlier this year was Kohawk pride.
Us Coe students love dressing up in crazy outfits and cheering on our fellow Kohawks! Whatever sporting event you go to here at Coe, whether it's football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, cross country, track, swimming, soccer, baseball, softball or golf, you will always find tons of Coe students cheering on their friends!

Christmas Break

Hi all! I haven't blogged in a while, and now that we're back at school I figured I'll blog about my Christmas break! My Christmas break was full of all kinds of fun things. For Christmas, I traveled all over around Iowa. For New Year's I went to a friends cabin in NE Iowa to celebrate. But best of all, I went to Aspen!

Every year a bunch of Coe football players and TKE's take a trip to Aspen to ski and snowboard. The trip is led by our TKE mentor and a math professor here at Coe, Kent Herron. This was my 2nd year on the trip, but this trip has been going on for 20+ years. We spent all day every day on the mountain, and at nights we would hang out in the hot tub or go to downtown Aspen to see everything there! It was lots of fun!
